Why Women Should Weight Train

As the population ages, one reads more and more about the benefits of weight training. No longer limited to bodybuilders or Olympic athletes, weight training is now mostly popular with women, and for good reason. Building stronger muscles and toning those muscles helps your general health for many reasons. Adding weight training into your routine with a proper and sensible diet will give women more energy. It also helps reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis. Weight training speeds up the metabolism by helping us burn more calories and this is especially good news when we reach the age of thirty. This is the age at which we tend to experience a natural decline in our metabolism.

Still not convinced? Maybe you read somewhere that working out with weights, specifically free weights, will cause your body to bulk up. Not to worry. A woman will never get as big as a man, but toned muscles is what we’re looking for, right? Working with a personal trainer will help you perform exercises using hand weights (like dumbbells) properly. Building stronger bones and muscles helps stave off injuries, and allows you to feel fit and able to do more physical activities. And as you age, what’s not to like about that scenario?
